The Cecilian Musical Society is steeped in tradition and history. Founded in 1919, our award-winning society has entertained the people of Limerick for over one hundred years and has been an integral part of the musical, cultural and social life of the city. The continued success of the society is a result of the dedication of its committee, cast members and production team, who work in tandem to stage top class productions. The committee are the unsung heroes of our musical society, who have worked tirelessly pulling the strings (including the purse strings!) behind the scenes to ensure that the society has made it to the stage each year for over a century. This long standing tradition was unfortunately stopped in its tracks in 2020. The impact of COVID-19 on the arts has been devastating, however our committee remained actively planning for the reopening of the entertainment industry. I would like to thank them all for their continued hard work and dedication. Even in the midst of a pandemic, they remained devoted, diligent and enthusiastic. While we longed for the stage throughout numerous lockdowns, it was the rehearsal room that we missed the most. The comradery found there is even more important than the song and dance. While performing together on stage is truly magical, most of the magic happens at rehearsals. It is there that we make friends for life and sometimes even find a husband or wife! Our primary purpose and drive as a musical society is to entertain and we cannot wait to finally return to the stage and welcome audiences back to the theatre. Our first post-pandemic performance, “Oklahoma” will be an exciting return to the stage for all past and future members of The Cecilian Musical Society. This is sure to be a very special week and we hope to see you there!
